Plant Dyed Textile Workshop: Eco Dye a Colorful Table Runner using Leaves, Flowers, and Natural Dyes
Another great workshop hosted by Lucy of Tall Cactus Studio!
Explore the gardens of Honeybee Home Flower Farm to pick hibiscus, hollyhock, cosmos, marigold, sunflowers, and other treasures to use in your unique eco dye table runner.
This is a perfect beginner project for anyone interested in learning how to use botanicals to transfer shape and color to fiber. Participants will be provided with a 12.5” x 68” sustainably produced organic cotton table runner. Lucy will guide participants in color, placement and shape while providing additional dye options such as deciduous leaves and even organic pigments derived from insects! Once your custom design is complete, it will be rolled and steamed for approximately 1 hour in which heat will cause the colors from the botanicals to release and transfer onto the runner. During this time, participants will be treated with light drinks and hors d'oeuvres and return to the flower fields to pick a mason jar bouquet to take home. If that wasn’t enough, Lucy will lead participants in a mini eco printed card-making project!
The workshop is limited to 6 participants; gather your friends and register now!
IMPORTANT: please wear shoes and clothing you don’t mind getting natural dyes on. The dyes will stain your clothing.
Care of your plant dyed table runner: limit exposure to sunlight as natural dyes will fade over time if exposed too long to direct sun. Wash in cold water with like-kind colors, line dry or use a dryer. Iron with a hot iron.
